Where to Sow

  • Direct outdoors or indoors in pots

Preparation

  • Outdoors: Rake soil to a fine, crumbly texture and remove stones

  • Indoors: Use free-draining compost in pots

Sowing

  • Sow every 4 weeks for a continuous supply

  • Outdoors: Sow thinly, 1cm deep, rows 30cm apart

  • Indoors: Sow very thinly in pots on a windowsill all year round

Growing On

  • Thin seedlings to 15cm apart once large enough to handle

  • Keep well watered to prevent plants running to flower

Harvesting

  • Pick young leaves as needed, taking only a few from each plant

  • Late summer sowings can crop into winter with cloche protection
